Peace of mind while your scooter charges
Fire safety FAQ
Is it safe to charge an electric scooter overnight?
It's the highest-risk time because no one is awake to catch early warning signs. If you charge overnight, use the original charger, do it on a non-combustible surface and away from your escape route, and keep a working smoke or heat alarm nearby.
Why do lithium batteries on electric scooters catch fire?
A single damaged, overheated or defective cell can start an internal chain reaction called thermal runaway. The most documented causes are physical damage, generic chargers, prolonged overcharging and manufacturing defects.
How do I store an electric scooter safely at home?
On a non-combustible surface (tile, concrete, stone), away from curtains or sofas, out of the hallway and your escape route, and with a smoke or heat alarm within two metres where possible.
Do fireproof bags for scooters actually work?
Certified ones contain temperatures well above 1000 °C for several minutes. They don't stop the battery from failing; they buy time to evacuate and call emergency services before the incident spreads.
What should I do if my scooter battery is swelling or smells?
Stop charging it, move it away from flammable materials, don't block your home's exit, and take it to an official service centre. Don't open the battery or try to repair it at home.
What kind of extinguisher do I need at home for an electric scooter?
No household extinguisher puts out a lithium fire effectively; water can make it worse. Realistic home protection is prevention, early detection and containment (a fireproof bag or blanket).
